Welcome from the Headteacher

As Headteacher of Dovery Down Lower School, I am delighted to introduce you to our popular school with a reputation for high standards.

As a Values School we promote a warm and caring community where every child is valued as an individual. We place learning at the centre of everything we do and believe that we all learn best when challenged and motivated. To achieve this we provide a stimulating, exciting curriculum where ideas can flourish and children feel a real sense of achievement.

Dovery Down's ethos is to enhance our commitment towards pupils individual well being.  Our curriculum is planned prioritising children's social, emotional and mental health development.

I am very proud of our school and the standards of care and education we provide.

If you would like to receive a prospectus, visit our school or have any queries relating to school please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

Warm Regards

Debra Brewster

The history of our school

Dovery Down Lower School is a small school set in our own woodland in Leighton Buzzard. We cater for 3-9 year olds.

We provide a safe, friendly and caring environment where children can be happy. They develop a love of learning and they can achieve their best.

Where does the name Dovery Down come from?

Before the school was built, there was a private house on this site. The house was called ‘Dovery Down’ and the school was named after it.

The name ‘Dovery’ is an early version of what is now ‘Doverhay’. Doverhay Down is the name of a hill near the village of Porlock in the Exmoor National Park. Perhaps the family who built the house had connections with West Somerset or perhaps they took their holidays there.
