Pirate Day 14th June 2017
On Wednesday the Reception Children came to school dressed up as Pirates. The costumes were all so different and the children really looked the part! We started the day with talking about our costumes and what kind of pirate we might be.
In the morning we went to the woods to do a Forest school activity. The children learnt about making a fire in the 'Kelly' kettle to heat the water for our 'Pirate Porridge'. We talked about fire safety and the children had lots of ideas about keeping safe.
After our snack all the pirates went on a scavanger hunt looking for pieces of gold, treasure and a map - we all managed to avoid the stinging nettles and collect everything on the list.
At lunchtime we had a lovely pirate lunch and Mrs Thompson made melon boats and cup cakes with a special golden coin on the top.
In the afternoon the children thought about what footwear a pirate might like to wear in the summer. The children designed and made fancy sandals, perfect for a pirate stranded on a desert island!
What a wonderful day to celebrate our topic
'By the Sea..................A Pirates Life for Me!'
